CANARY — The canary in your compressed air system
Introducing Canary, by AirAudit

The canary in your compressed air system.

For a century, miners carried a bird into the dark to sense what they couldn't sense themselves. Canary does the same for your plant — our engineers install it once, and it keeps watching every day after.

The Idea

The Bird That Saved a Million Lives

For most of human history, the underground coal mine was one of the deadliest workplaces on earth — not from collapsing roofs, but from gases no one could see or smell.

Miners carried canaries into the shafts with them. A canary absorbs airborne molecules far faster than a human — a rapid breathing rate, a sensitive lung design — so when carbon monoxide or methane rose to dangerous levels, the bird showed distress while the miners still felt fine.

It gave them time. Time to evacuate. Time to live. Britain's Coal Mines Act of 1911 formalised the practice, and the canary served faithfully for seventy-six years — not because it was cheap, but because it was honest. It could not be bribed or silenced.

"It was present every single day — and it never stopped watching."

The Invisible Enemy

Three Silent Costs

Compressed air is the fourth utility. Unlike electricity, where a fault trips a breaker, compressed air failure is almost entirely invisible — until it isn't.

01

Leaks — the silent drain

25–35% of all compressed air generated is typically lost to leaks. No alarm. It just hisses behind a cabinet, continuously, expensively.

02

Misuse — the wrong application

A 6-bar machine run at 8 bar because someone turned a dial and never turned it back. Air used to clean or cool — the most expensive way possible.

03

Decay — the slow bleed

A compressor losing roughly 1% efficiency per quarter, until a "surprise" shutdown that was entirely predictable.

The factory doesn't know it's being poisoned. That's precisely why it needs a canary.

What Canary Detects

Six Blind Spots

Canary is not an auditor in the accountancy sense. It's a sentinel — built to find what you cannot find yourself.

Air leaks (ultrasonic)

Energy lost silently — often 25–35% of total compressor output.

Misuse & over-pressurisation

Wrong applications, bypassed regulators, wasted capacity.

Compressor performance decay

Efficiency loss, bearing and valve wear — invisible until failure.

Dryer & filter degradation

Rising dew point, oil carry-over, contamination pathways.

Food & pharma air quality

Microbial count, oil vapour, particulate, moisture — ISO 8573.

System sizing & design faults

Over- or under-built infrastructure wasting capital permanently.

The Modern Canary

Same Bird, Different Body

Every instrument on a Canary installation exists to reproduce one biological trait that made the coal-mine canary irreplaceable. Nothing here is decorative — each sensor earns its place the way the bird did.

THE BIRD

Breathing rate 4× faster than a human

Absorbed airborne molecules almost instantly — sensed what a person couldn't yet feel.

THE INSTRUMENT

Ultrasonic Leak Detectors

Pick up the high-frequency hiss of a leak long before it shows up as a pressure drop a person would notice.

THE BIRD

Visible distress as gas concentration rose

Its behaviour changed the moment conditions did — a live signal, not a retrospective one.

THE INSTRUMENT

Flow Meters

Flag abnormal flow spikes and drift in real time — the moment usage or demand shifts, not at next audit.

THE BIRD

Constant presence, no reporting lag

It shared the same air as the miners, every shift — there was no gap between change and alert.

THE INSTRUMENT

Pressure Transducers & Dew Point Sensors

Stream pressure differential and moisture readings continuously, instead of a single manual reading once a year.

THE BIRD

Could not be bribed or silenced

Its signal was incorruptible — no foreman could make it give a false reading to hit a target.

THE INSTRUMENT

Automated Data Logging

Every reading is timestamped and stored to the dashboard automatically — no manual round to skip, no number to soften.

Permanent Presence

From One Visit to a Live Signal

An audit team visits once, then leaves. For the months in between, the system runs unsupervised — leaks reopen, efficiency drifts. The Canary Platform closes that gap.

Where We Operate

Built for plants that don't run on one clock.

Canary is deployed across South Asia and the Gulf, adapting to how each market thinks about compressed air cost.

Pakistan

Cost & capex avoidance

For most plants here, the case is simple: leaks and decay are money leaving the building every month. Canary shows exactly how much, and where.

UAE & Gulf

Efficiency & sustainability

Alongside the cost case, Gulf plants are increasingly measured on energy efficiency and emissions — Canary's data feeds both conversations.

Bangladesh

Compliance & efficiency

Textile and manufacturing plants use Canary to keep air quality and efficiency within the standards their buyers now expect.

Common Questions

Before you request a demo

The questions plant managers usually ask us first.

Yes. Canary's sensors are fitted to your existing equipment during the site visit — you don't need to replace or upgrade your compressors to use it.

No. Sensors are fitted around your existing lines without shutting the plant down, so your production schedule isn't affected.

Yes. Your readings are tied to your account only and aren't shared with other clients or third parties.

Once sensors are live, you'll start seeing readings on the Canary dashboard, and we'll flag anything that needs attention as it comes up — not just once a year.
